WHAT IS BOULDER GREEN STREETS?

Boulder Green Streets (BGS) promotes active, healthy living, sustainability and strong community. We do this by creating expanded public, park-like spaces through large-scale street liberation projects. Extensive and free activity programming gets all ages, economic levels, ethnicities and genders out to play together to experience sustainability first hand.

Boulder Parks & Recreation At BGS

Here is what Boulder Parks & Recreation has to say about this weekends event:

The City of Boulder Parks & Recreation Department is excited to offer Boulder Green Streets participants opportunities to move, play and have fun with our energetic team of professional dance, gymnastics, fitness, sports and arts coordinators. The Department is proud to be a major sponsor and fitness activity coordinator for this year’s event.

“We love supporting events that bring the community together and encourage health, fitness, and sustainability. Green Streets brings both environmental and personal health into focus through a fun day of ‘street liberation,’ healthy food and playful movement – making it one of our favorite new events,” states Paul Bousquet, marketing manager for Boulder Parks and Recreation.

We will be offering youth and adult dance programs, gymnastics demonstrations, sports games and clay play between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. from the main stage and on the street near 23rd and Pearl (2 blocks west of Folsom). Ride your bike, walk or grab a bus and come play with us as part of Boulder’s Day of Play!

2011 MAJOR SPONSORS ANNOUNCED

There are more sponsors to list than those that appear above but these are our major sponsors and we would like to start out by acknowledging them now for their critical role in making this years Boulder Green Streets Second Annual Ciclovia possible.

As the City of Boulder is the Presenting sponsor we would like to highlight the  particular  City Departments that have taken a lead role. We feel very proud of our City for getting behind this program! Many communities across the country are struggling to get the attention of their city governments as they start Ciclovia programs. Many local governments fail to recognizing the deep value of bringing the community together around health and sustainability. Thanks Boulder!

We also are proud to have such partners like Whole Foods, Rudi’s, and Eldorado Springs Water that are leading the way nationally in creating postive changes in food and water quality. One example, check out Whole Foods Concert at the market tonight 8/19/11 where top bands are playing and the $15 ticket fee will go to support local Boulder schools. Western disposal will also be featuring some of its sustainable additions in their growing business as well as helping with zero waste stations. Marv’s will help us clear the street and Whew the Avid, YMCA, and Boulder BCycle will help fill the streets with bikes and fun! Watch for a detailed insert in the Daily Camera in September that will feature all our programming and activity passport.  Thanks to everyone for bringing Ciclovia to Boulder and making Boulder the great place it is to live!
