MISSION STATEMENT
We promote good health, environmental sustainability, and community in Boulder County through street liberation events and car free spaces.
OBJECTIVES
We accomplish our mission in several ways:
We organize events that utilize large scale street ‘liberations’ to promote the use of streets in new car-free ways. This can create a paradigm shift as people consider new ways to experience public space.
We organize extensive programing of FREE activities that relate to and promote sustainable living and transportation options, active & healthy living, as well as community.
We create programming that invites all sectors of the community to participate. All activities are FREE to insure all economic levels have access to programming. We offer bike and equipment rental for general use and create activities that engage all age groups, genders, and abilities.
We promote and help strengthen local businesses and non-profits that share our same focus on car-free public spaces and/or health and sustainability. We provide these groups the opportunity for extensive promotion and large-scale outreach that many small businesses, non-profits, or individual consultants can not achieve alone.
We create short term local jobs and we provide opportunities for community service and reduce air pollution.
We provide leadership to other small to medium sized US cities by demonstrating how to advocate for and implement a Ciclovia/Green Streets program.
We encourage the entire community to play together in a CAR-FREE way.
2012 Goals:
• To attract at least 10,000-20,000 visitors representing a wide variety of demographics.
• To expand the main event (September) route creating a circut of at least 3 miles.
• To host at least 3 small neighborhood Green Street closure events in June, July & August featuring neighborhoods already engaged (University Hill, Whitter, North Boulder Park). To use these events to create beach-heads for future route expansion.
• To encourage at least 1,000 participants to try an activity at our main September event.
• To support Boulder businesses and government groups that offer health & active living services and products and increase their memberships, participation or client base through positive exposure and a year long marketing campaign starting in January 2011.
• To facilitate and support local non-profit partners that offer programs or services in sustainability and/or promote health services and affordable ʻactive livingʼ programs.
• To encourage Boulder residents to explore alternative means of transportation and community sustainability by exploring new ways to move through public space. To introduce Boulder’s new bike share program and community meet-ups that offer engagement year round.
